Dr. Deshpande is currently a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Louisville. He is also president of Simulation and Advanced Controls (SAC) Inc., a Louisville-based company specializing in products and services for monitoring and optimization of manufacturing (continuous, batch, and discrete parts-manufacturing) and nonmanufacturing (transactional) processes. Deshpande has twenty-nine years of academic and full-time industrial experience and served as chairman of the chemical engineering department at the University of Louisville for five years. He has authored or coauthored five books in process control and has also developed a number of control algorithms and technologies. Seventeen PhD graduates and forty master’s graduates have been supervised by Deshpande. Deshpande is a 150th Anniversary Distinguished Engineering Fellow of the University of Alabama and has received several awards for his work, including the 1990 Donald P. Eckman award in process control education given by ISA. Deshpande consults for many companies in diverse disciplines and offers continuing education courses in several countries. He is a member of AIChE and a fellow of ISA.
