Robert K. (Bob) Poag, BSChE 1983, MSChE 1984, PhD 1987, 2023 Inductee

While at the University of Arkansas, Tyson studied chemical engineering and business on an academic scholarship, an opportunity that changed his life.  Upon graduation, Tyson joined Albemarle Corporation at their Magnolia, AR production facility.  Over the next several years, Tyson filled several roles at Albemarle, including positions in the Technical, Operations, and Finance organizations. He worked at multiple sites in the US and overseas, being granted five US patents as well as debottlenecking several facilities.  Tyson eventually went on to lead several of Albemarle’s global businesses, including portions of their flame retardant portfolio as well as their $450 million global bromine and lithium business. 

In 2016, Tyson joined Pilgrim’s Pride, one of the world’s largest poultry producers, as a member of their global leadership team, leading a $3 billion division encompassing 21 facilities and 10,000 employees.  In 2021, he joined a boron start-up called 5th Element Advanced Materials as Chief Operating Officer, taking the company public on NASDAQ for a valuation of $1.2 billion.  Tyson currently serves as a Board Member or Advisor to several companies, both public and private.  He resides in Fort Collins, CO with his wife, Katie, and their two children, Russell (2) and Ella (8 months).
