Colonel Myers was commissioned as 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force at the same time he completed his undergraduate degree. Following his summer employment with Monsanto Chemical, Myers returned to the University of Arkansas for his MSChE. After a brief stint with DuPont Co., Myers was called to active duty in the Air Force. One of his early assignments in the Air Force was with the Atomic Energy Detection Agency which was charged with locating and characterizing nuclear explosions around the world. Myers remained in the nuclear weapons community with assignments both in and out of the Department of the Air Force until his retirement in 1984. He began his second career with the department acting as assistant department head and teaching Corrosion Control. Myers also acted as faculty advisor to Alpha Chi Sigma (in which he was initiated in 1954), serving as the fraternity’s national president (Grand Master Alchemist) from 2000 to 2002. Colonel Myers retired from the University on July 1, 2008. He has, for over 44 years, been married to the former Satsuki Tanaka. They have a son, Mark, a daughter, Yuri, three granddaughters and one grandson.
